digitalmars.D.announce - Status Update April/May 2025

I should have posted this a couple of weeks ago after Razvan
updated me, but I forgot all about it. Here's what's going on
with the projects he's tracking.

__Phobos v3__ (Adam Wilson & Jonathan Davis)

Adam has been focusing primarily on his role as a GSoC mentor, so
he's had less time than usual to put into Phobos v3. Jonathan
made limited progress through April and May, but expected to have
more time from this month. I should be able to report something
on that front in the next update.

__New GC__ (Steven Schveighoffer)

Steven reported that the Linux version is working and stable, but
was using more memory than expected. He planned to look into
that. He had also gotten the GC functioning on Windows and was
working on getting it stable. If you've spent any time on the
Discord server over the past couple of weeks, you may have seen
some of his comments about a problem he encountered on Windows
with, IIRC, a thread hanging.

__Editions__ (Multiple)

Because Átila authored the Editions DIP, it needed to go through
discussion by the core team before I could hand it off to Walter
for the final verdict. We discussed it in our May monthly
meeting. There was disagreement over a couple of details,
particularly regarding command line flags. I'll post more
information about that discussion in the meeting summary. The end
result was that we had to schedule a more focused meeting the
following week, where ultimately we agreed the DIP could move
forward with some changes. I'll merge it into the DIP repository
and hand it off to Walter once Átila implements the changes.

Rikki had been working on an implementation, but ultimately
decided not to pursue it. Walter has since started working on
one. Razvan will now be tracking that one.

__Release Process__ (Dennis Korpel, Razvan Nitu)

Dennis was trying to improve the release scripts. He and Razvan
wanted to come up with a plan to simplify the scripts and put it
forward as a potential SAOC project.

__GSoC__

The coding period is under way. One of the students has been
posting updates here in the forums. Razvan intends to keep tabs
on their progress, so I should have some information on that
front in future status updates.
