digitalmars.D - Countries where D is used

reply Chris <wendlec tcd.ie> writes:
I've noticed that there is a lot of enthusiasm for D in France,
Germany and Russia (alphabetic order) where it is also used for
production. I see there's a company in Belarus that uses D, and D
is also used in Italy, Austria and the Czech Republic. Where else
is D used for production? I for my part can add Ireland to the
list.

I already suspected that the highest density was in Europe. Maybe the webmaster can find out where the downloads are coming from.

Weka.IO is in Tel Aviv, Israel. What surprises me most is how low D interest in Silicon Valley is. Yes, there are companies in Silicon Valley that use D but the presence is much weaker than I expect. Ali

 Ali
I talked to my system programming buddies on the West Coast, they are either sticking with C++ or jumping on the Go or Rust hype trains. I'm more of a scripting/.NET guy in DFW with little C++ experience, but I'm find D to be enjoyable so far. Any D user groups in the area have been dead for a year or two, as far as I can tell. Dallas area is corporate program driven so it's mostly .NET and Java with a few game studios as outliers.

I don't think it's all that surprising that Rust and Go are far more popular than D there, considering they're backed by Mozilla and Google. In a way it's a metaphor for Silicon Valley as a whole; it's not about what you can do, but who has the most friends.

I don't know if it's used in production there, but all the time I'll see Japanese coders post in the #dlang Twitter sidebar on the homepage.
