digitalmars.empire - opening a game

Hi this is my first time posting, so i hope i've got everything typed in ok.
anyway, here is my problem,   I have tried repeatedly with 100% failure to take
a saved .emp file from home and load it at my work computer,  I don't know what
to do, it always says "Access Violation" and closes out.  is there some way
around this? or can I only load a game from the computer it was saved on?  I've
tried copying the whole directory even, with no success
