I've had a twitter account for 15 years now (!) and haven't used it much for
anything. But lately I've decided to use it to give regular updates on D things
I've been working on.

I encourage other D users on twitter to do the same!

Can you create a special post in the forum? This way, it is safer and more convenient.

That is a good idea to do that as well. But I have no idea why would be safer? Anyhow, the idea with Twitter is outreach to a larger audience. Newspapers all do it, why shouldn't we? Some hashtags to follow: https://twitter.com/hashtag/dlang https://twitter.com/hashtag/ImportC

Is your `own forum` not better than others? There are restrictions everywhere on `others platform`. Of course, it's also because I can't access Twitter, but `these websites(platform)` are all like this. There is no need to seek distance from the near. Forums are already `great places` for communication or information. For D, you only need to have one person dedicated to `publishing information` (similar to posting articles on `multiple platforms`) on the same account in other similar places. Instead, you mainly work on the forum. At the same time, if you carefully collect `excellent posts` from the forum, these are all `excellent resources` for D. At the same time, the forum is also an excellent `resource gathering point`. Just like I have a website, I hope to increase the traffic for others to access me, and your forum can collect blogs related to D, so that when others need to `find information`, they can directly `visit` you site and then distribute it from you. A win-win situation. In this way, if others say D lacks `resources`, you just need to give him `gathering blogs site` to it. [Some of the articles,I translated specifically targeted for chinese D users](https://fqbqrr.blog.csdn.net/category_9101560.html?spm=1001.2014.3001.5482). If only you could give me a link to it.

Newspapers all zombies that are hoping to trade in their brand name for a pay day before boomers leave the scene. By all means fund and promote *live coding* or teaching videos if you want to outreach, but shitposting on twitter wont do anything of value

It is worth `promoting` in platforms that has a large number of programmers. Some `foreign platforms` can also be utilized. `Videos, articles, and animates` can all be used to promote `D`.

You're always welcome to do some live streaming on Discord :) Those video channels don't get used enough, and I haven't figured out a way to encourage their usage so it would be a help!

That would be awesome! I'm sure many people would find it very interesting to see how you work - both your approach to solving problems and day-to-day techniques like your own Micro Emacs D editor.

I'm just afraid it will consist mostly of me staring at the screen with a baffled look.

I think that's 99.9% of programmers. But think of it as rubber duck debugging. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_duck_debugging I think that having to explain your actions makes one a better programmer. It's kind of like PR reviews except it's live. It's similar to documenting code. If you document your API or code and realize the explanation doesn't really make any sense then probably the code doesn't make any sense. So it's time to rethink that piece of code.

Do not let that discourage you, I think you should do the coding videos. I feel there is a lot of potential value in it. During the last few years a new niche has cropped up on YouTube, where people record and upload there full programming sessions. Don't worry about "dead air" or about stuff not working out. The video production is not where the value is, the value is in exposing the raw thinking & problem solving process. People who have experience often end up cutting out a lot of things, due to it being obvious to them. Whats unique to this style of video is that its up to the viewer to decide what takeaways are useful. This often means the a single video can be good for people at all levels. I have also noticed that this kind of videos help get beginners out of tutorial hell. The reason you should do it, is because you are one of few in a unique position to make the most impact, Who else is THE authority on D? Andreas Kling is responsible for onboarding many people onto C++ through his videos on YouTube. In the worst case if this is a bad idea, this will cost the overhead of setting up a recording and uploading it online, the content of the video is the work you would be doing anyway with you simply vocalizing your thought process.

Great! I'll try starting to do that also since we most of the time we're here posting only to existing D users, being in an unfiltered platform such as twitter could help too. I've started doing that kind of work on instagram since images tells a lot there.
