Looks like Phoronix posted an article about D moving into GCC a couple weeks ago. So hopefully things are going well on this. http://www.phoronix.com/scan.php?page=news_item&px=ODc2Ng

Phoronix took notice of D? Expect monthly articles revealing "performance drawbacks" in the latest beta versions of dmd/gdc/ldc that only matter in artificial benchmarks.

The headline is misleading. The article talks about GDC moving into the GCC family (which would be a good thing). The headline appears to suggest the whole D project is looking to mergewith GCC (which would be a bad thing).

Considering D is a language, I would hope all of it was merged into GCC. Otherwise I assume by "D project" you mean DMD, which is an incorrect association.
