Hi folks,

We at Facebook are very excited about the upcoming DConf 2014. In fact,

entails additional costs so we're trying to assess the size of the
online audience. Please follow up here and on twitter:

I'm interested but probably wouldn't be able to catch it all live due to work schedule. I'll definitely watch it all later at my own pace whether livestreamed or not. What I would hate is for livestreaming to be the only opportunity to watch it online.

I don't think I follow. The conference starts at 9 AM and ends at 4:30 PM in San Francisco time. Converted to GMT this is 4 PM to 11:30 PM. That should be super-convenient for most Europeans.

This is an interesting point. If memory serves last time one video was released per week, meaning that reddit/hn readers could properly digest and discuss them in turn. You'll have to assume that someone will rip the livestream and publish it all the very same day.

If you use a Google hangout on air with a laptop that is pointing at the
presenter, I don't see much extra cost, except perhaps the cost of the
bandwidth(free?).

You probably even put a link on the dlang website that opens the hangout,
with a different hangout for each session. If you are wanting to delay
access to the videos you would have to go onto your youtube channel and
make the videos private after the live streaming.

My timezone will keep me awake from 2am -> 9am to watch the live
streams... which I probably will do ;)
Yeah, you were there. Don't do this a second night.

 Hi folks,

We at Facebook are very excited about the upcoming DConf
 2014. In fact, so
excited we're considering livestreaming the event for the
 benefit of the
many of us who can't make it to Menlo Park, CA. Livestreaming
 entails
additional costs so we're trying to assess the size of the
 online audience.

 Thanks,

I'll probably watch most of it if it's streamed.

No, I can't see myself making it a second time... The afternoon sessions are all super-interesting to me though! >_< I might just have to watch the keynote and give up tonight.

Looking forward to watching the Meyers keynote and most of the other talks today. How did the panel go yesterday? Wish I could have watched it.

Will the videos be available afterwards at Andreis Youtube stream like last year?

+1 There's a big overlap between people who can't be at dconf and who also can't watch the live feed due to the time difference.

Like me, I tried my best to stay up after 1.30am to watch Andrei and Walter get peppered with questions, but since I left university, my ability to stay up (unaided by alcohol at least) is well gone.

Well, they clearly need to harden up! ;) I was awake from 2am -> 10:30 am today... I'm currently smashing tea, gearing up to go again... (I'm not sure I'll make it tonight, I don't feel so great) I think East-Coast-Australia<->West-Coast-US are the most incompatible timezones on earth! >_<

Korea <-> West-Coast-US is a close second.

I don't think it's certain yet, but here's what the MC James Pearce said in the chat yesterday: "to those asking about videos, we'll have them all up on YouTube as promptly as possible (24-48 hours, hopefully)" So if they can stick to that, there's no reason to livestream unless you really want to see it first. :)
