digitalmars.D - Standard Library Poll

Thanks to Jason's suggestion, I created a poll regarding the Standard
Library issue:

http://WhichStdLibForDShould.RuleThemAll.com/

Since it's a new subdomain it might not have propagated to everyone's
DNS servers so the direct polldaddy link is here:
http://www.polldaddy.com/poll.aspx?p=291282

I was kind of hoping for something that allowed users to click more than one option or do borda voting, etc... Of course, that may be too complex and people wouldn't realize the right way to do it. I already find the poll results interesting.

Hrmm... the polls can be set up to do that, and I considered it, but I thought it best to keep it simple. It is just an opinion poll after all :). If enough people vote though, we'll at least get a sense of what the majority of the D community thinks about the issue.

So far it looks pretty much biased for Tango. It'd be nice to get some feedback from you, Walter, too, though? :)

Yeah after roughly 1 day worth of votes it looks like about 75% of the people who voted would prefer a change away from Phobos. I was surprised to find that the majority (61%) voted for Tango with no Phobos compatibility. I know it's just a silly opinion poll, and not any scientific evidence of anything, but it's still interesting none the less. First of all, 180 people have voted so far, which is way more than I was expecting! That would seem to indicate that it's a topic people care about. And the fact that it's such a huge landslide in one direction says something important too. At the least it says that this is an issue worthy of further discussion, and it's one that I really think requires some attention from Walter. Walter, I am specifically requesting a response from you. Where do you stand on this? What are your thoughts? Do you ever intend to open up Phobos to more contributors? How do you feel about the idea of scrapping Phobos? How do you feel about Tango as an API? What do you think about the poll results?

You never know... Walter may have already voted in the poll ;) The point of the poll (in my mind) is to get an empirical body of evidence so that those owning/maintaining Phobos and Tango can use to justify future action. It's very clear to me that Tango is heavily favored, but what's not clear is what should be done. There's a whole thread dedicated to that issue.
