I don't know if kickstarter could be used for D, say for buying the reference backend from Symantec and digitalmars hiring a couple of fulltime programmers.

I think Walter usually prefers one buys a cup, t-shirt or similar instead of direct donations. -- /Jacob Carlborg

DSource has mostly become a graveyard for orphaned project these days, unfortunately. I wouldn't encourage donating at this point if you want to »invest« in the future of D, although operating the servers must've racked up a considerable amount of expenses. David

The web site has some buttons for setting up a shop and uploading the artwork. It's pretty simple.

[...] There's a new D logo? Where? Some time ago, I made a quick-n-dirty povray model of D man: https://github.com/quickfur/dmascot You can see some sample renders here: http://eusebeia.dyndns.org/~hsteoh/tmp/mascot.png But it didn't seem to have attracted much attention. Perhaps people think it's too simplistic. *shrug* T -- If a person can't communicate, the very least he could do is to shut up. -- Tom Lehrer, on people who bemoan their communication woes with their loved ones.

Look at dlang.org. That logo in the top-left is fairly new. It didn't exist when digitalmars.com was D's main website. - Jonathan M Davis

While I think buying gifts is a good idea, I don't see the harm in having a donate button so that people can make direct donations. Am I right in thinking the more popular the language the more maintenance required? The more people could donate the more progress could be achieved.

It is possible to donate via http://flattr.com, and it supports GitHub repositories. Those to whom you donate will eventually need to register on flattr to get donations, so it might be a good idea to notify them :)
